Meeting Minutes | August 3rd, 2022

Meeting called to order:  12:05 pm at Buccilli’s

Introduction of Guests
Attendees from 2022 Rotary Life Leadership Conference:  Alex Grover with parents Kathy Grover and Scott Loose, Jenna Houserman, Megan Houserman, Hailey Watson with parents Chad and Jennifer Watson, and Lillian Vincent with parent Laurie Ranney. (Those not able to attend meeting:  Morgan Stackler, Haleigh Foster and Anjalena Garcia).
 
Scholarships:  Lauren Hood, Hannah Peel and Jorden Bangert.
 
Other guests:  Kathleen Hoerauf (Susan Tyer's Daughter) and Tom Monroe.
 
Birthday’s:  None
 
Minutes:  July 20 Minutes were approved.  Ben Elliot made the motion and Rhonda Lambert seconded the motion, all approved.

Presentation of Presidential Award and Paul Harris Award

Presentation of Awards for 2022 Rotary Life Leadership Conference
(Presenter:  Rhonda Lamberg)
  • Special acknowledgement to Interact high school students for attendance and completion of the 2022 Rotary Life Leadership Conference. Those recognized at meeting: Alex Grover, Jenna Houserman, Megan Houserman, Hailey Watson, Lillian Vincent, and Alex Grover. Recognized but unable to attend meeting :Morgan Stackler, Haleigh Foster, Anjalena Garcia.

  • Rhonda Lamberg conducted a question-and-answer session with students on reasons for attending and knowledge gained at conference.  Questions asked and answered by students were:  (1) Impressions of conference and was it worth it?(2) What made you say “yes” to attend conference.? (3) Which message/speaker impacted you most?(4) How are you going to use what you learned at conference for the future? (5). Any improvements for the next conference? (6) Since conference, what does leadership mean to you?
 
  • Responses from students was overall positive with many life  leadership skills specified by each attendee.  Houghton Lake Rotary has a long history of attendance at this conference for the last 73 years.  The club supports each student financially to attend.  Rhonda Lamberg has a long history of participating and supporting students at conference.
 
Presentation of Scholarships
(Presenter:  Ben Elliott)
  • Those presented with scholarships:  Hannah Pell, Lauren Hood and Jordan Bangert. These scholarships were given to these recent high school graduates for future education.
  • The club will continue to offer scholarships in 2023.

Committee Updates
 
Car Show
Tom Monroe said we are finalizing items for the Car Show.  Trophies should be done by the end of the week.   This year we will have a new trophy for Pinky Randall.  Due to all the positive feedback, we have received on the Car Show, there will be no changes this year.  Good participation on cheering on cars as they ride around the lake.  Thank you to Ron Homan for donating all the beer and brats.
WE NEED 4-5 more Volunteers for the 8/20: 
 
Stuff the Bus
Susan has sign up sheets available and will be speaking more about Stuff the Bus at the next meeting. 
 
Camel Races
Heather will be working on T-Shirts and Susan is organizing the event with Patricia and getting sponsors.

Happy Cash:
$2 donated by Ben Elliot for looking forward to the end of wedding planning.  His marriage is this Saturday and we all wished him well.
 
 
50/50
? won the 50/50 raffle.  $18 to club and $18 to Scott Loose who donated it back to the club.
