Interact President Kelli Ignat and Vice President Joey Peterson recently spoke to the Rotary Club of Houghton Lake regarding the fund raising efforts of the club including a garage sale at Collins Elementary, can collections, and "Flocking" of yard flamingos to help sponsor a trip to build homes in El Salvador. Rotary President Denise Stefanko presented the Interact Club with a $1,500 grant that will help build a home for a family in El Salvador. Returnable cans are still being accepted at Cashaway Supply Co. in Houghton Lake. So far this year, the Rotary Club of Houghton Lake has supported the following local projects and organizations: K-9 Vest, HLHS Scholarships through the RCCF, HLHS Scholarships direct from the Rotary Club of Houghton Lake, UPS Ed & Caren Christmas for Kids, Elk's Lodge Graham/Grover Thanksgiving Dinner, Shop with a Hero, Roscommon County Sheriff Operation Present Patrol, Roscommon County Sheriff Boot Booster Program, Collins Backpack Program, Rusty Nuts - Michigan Special Olympics, Mid Michigan Big Brothers / Big Sisters.
