Meeting Minutes | August 3rd, 2021

 
Meeting called to order
at 12:00pm by Susan
Attendance: Scott, Jay, Ben, Rhonda, Bob, Bobby, Kyle, Clarence, Susan, Heather   
Approval of July 20th, 2021 Minutes
Jay made a motion to approve the minutes, Scott seconded and all approved
 
CANCELED- August 10th Meeting 
Looking for a Rotarian to chair the Adopt a Highway program.
 
Correspondence & News
Bucillis is now closed Monday and Tuesday because of lack of staffing. We are canceling the August 10th meeting and will need to decide if we are to meet on Wednesday or Thursday. Susan has sent out a request for your input to which day is preferable for our new meeting time, please get back to her by August 6th.
 
Our district governor shared his Goals with an email to Susan.
The first was Leadership Development and that  clubs need to have a plan of succession. We have a plan, with Cole being the next President.
He also shared he wanted to increase Membership and Growth.
His motto for this year is “Serve to Change Lives”

Club Program –
Kyle Bates introduced Dr. Rob McMorrow. Topic – Substance Abuse and Opioid. There has been a 40% increase in overdose in 2020, increase in meth and 40% of meth overdoses involve fentanyl. 4 parts of addiction, biological part which they have medications for then there is psychological, spiritual and social. They currently serve over 300 Patients for their recovery program through Mid-Michigan and receive great support from the community. They also offer treatment for other substance abuse disorders. Number 1 goal is to keep patients alive and retention of treatment. Their other goals are harm reduction and to decrease their use.
Nas spoke about being a recovery coach and creating a recovery pathway. She also talked about doing recovery groups about understanding addiction. The center has been open for 2 years Help them find recovery sources in the community.
FAQC, a facility is granted through the federal government, not mid but affiliated with them. Lower cost options for patients.
 
 
Scholarships
Scholarship Recipients introduced and two of the five checks were presented to them.  The other three got their checks from Rotary through the Roscommon County Community Foundation.

    1. Chase plans to study Environment and attend U of M
  2. Rachel Sajdak – Service Above Self – Scholarship – Rotary
    1. Rachel plans to attend U of M to study social theory and history
  3. Breanna Vietti – Rotary through RCCF
    1. Breanna is attending CMU for pre-rec and then transferring to Ohio State for the Nursing Program
  4. Madison Hartsuff – Rotary through RCCF
    1. Madison plans to attend Ferris State to study forensic chemistry or pre med
  5. Jacob Hamp – Rotary through RCCF
    1. Jacob plans to attend Hillsdale to study economic and play football.
 
Car Show update – Rhonda
No fee to join the car cruise, they can be newer cars not just classic cars. $20 to register with the car show the next day. Please share the event on facebook
There are 58 trophies. Contact Rhonda if you’d like a T-shirt.
If you are working the event it would be nice to wear a Rotary Shirt, you can bring in your own shirt to Arnies and it’s $7 to have our Rotary symbol printed on it.
Rhonda thanked everyone for being a sponsor. If you have 100 or more goodies that can be used from your business please donate them to our goody bags.  
 
 
Stuff the Bus update – Susan
We need more volunteers for Saturday September 11th, since both doors will be open this year. Please sign up for a shift or two on Friday, September 10th  and/or Saturday, September 11th.   Walmart from 10-4.
 
Happy Cash- Susan mentioned Kyle got married 6 weeks ago and congratulated him
